PITTSBURGH -- Given a choice, Josh Harrison is always going to choose to be aggressive. Always. So when the pickoff throw whizzed by Harrison as he stood on first base in the eighth inning with the Pittsburgh Pirates trailing by a run on Friday night, Harrison took off. When he rounded second, he caught third-base coach Rick Sofields eye. They both had the same idea: get to third as quickly as possible. So Harrison kept right on going. One problem. The ball got there first courtesy of a perfect strike from first baseman Hernan Perez to Jonathan Villar. And just like that, the threat was over. Soon after so was the game as the Pirates began a pivotal 10-game homestand with a 1-0 loss.In a split second, in the thick of things it looked like I was going to be safe, next thing I wasnt, Harrison said. Nothing you can really do. If I stop at second and the ball doesnt kick back to him, I could have been at third.Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle defended the decision, pointing to the number of times Harrisons hustle has paid off for the Pirates throughout his career. They made a major league throw, Hurdle said. One that helped send the Pirates to a fourth straight loss. Pittsburgh remained 2 1/2 games behind St. Louis for the second wild card spot in the National league when it mustered just seven hits off seven Milwaukee pitchers and failed to get a runner safely to third. Harrisons mad scramble is as close as the Pirates came to getting within 90 feet of home.Knowing I was the tying run, especially in the eighth inning definitely stung a little bit, Harrison said.Andrew McCutchen went 3 for 4 but Pittsburgh left eight men on base and went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position.TAILLONS TIMEPitching in a meaningful September for the first time as a professional, Pirates rookie Jameson Taillon put together a solid bounce-back performance after the Brewers touched him for five runs last Saturday. Taillon surrendered three hits and one run over six innings, striking out four without issuing a walk and needing only 76 pitches to get 18 outs. His only hiccup came when he hit Martin Maldonado leading off the sixth. Maldonado moved to second on a groundout and scored when Scooter Gennetts drive to deep center was just out of McCutchens reach. The 24-year-old Taillon, just two years removed from reconstructive elbow surgery, said he felt fresher than he has in some time and understands the team is carefully monitoring his workload. If I can help contribute in any way, thats great, the rookie said. Im aware of the standings. Im aware of where were at. Im aware whats at stake.SEPTEMBER SHUTOUTMaking his return after spending nearly a month on the DL to rest his right elbow, Milwaukees Junior Guerra knew he was on a pitch count. When the count ran out earlier than he anticipated, the Brewers expanded bullpen more than picked up the slack.Six Milwaukee relievers shut down the Pirates over the final 5 2/3 innings. Blaine Boyer (2-3) pitched a scoreless fifth to pick up the win. Tyler Thornburg worked the ninth for his seventh save.A nine-inning shutout using seven pitchers, which is probably only in September baseball, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. But they did great. They all pitched tough innings.Guerra reached his 70-pitch limit with runners on first and second and one out in the third. Jacob Barnes, who was also activated from the DL on Friday after dealing with his own right elbow issues, got Jordy Mercer to fly out and struck out Taillon.Guerra was hardly crisp while allowing five hits and two walks but said he felt healthy.TRAINERS ROOMPirates: P Gerrit Cole did some flat ground work on Friday as he continues his rehab from inflammation in his right elbow. Cole, on the DL since Aug. 25, is hopeful to return this season.UP NEXT:Ivan Nova will try to keep his Pittsburgh renaissance going when he makes his sixth start with the Pirates since being acquired at the trade deadline from the Yankees. Nova is 4-0 with a 2.87 ERA since the coming to Pittsburgh, including a 3-1 win over Milwaukee in his last start. Milwaukees Jimmy Nelson is still searching for the form he had in April and May. The right-hander is 2-10 with a 5.87 ERA in his last 16 starts dating to June 3.Nike Clearance Store . -- Stanford squashed Oregons national championship hopes again, schooling the Ducks in power football. SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- New Minnesota Wild coach Bruce Boudreau likes his teams to play up-tempo, high-energy hockey. Its a hallmark he established during successful stints in Washington and Anaheim, which he hopes to show Minnesota fans on Saturday when the Wild hosts the Winnipeg Jets in their home opener. If Boudreaus team is able to play that high-scoring, up-tempo style, it will be something Wild fans havent often seen, and something they definitely havent seen this season. The Wild comes home with a 0-1-0 mark after a generally lifeless 3-2 loss to the Blues in St. Louis on Thursday night, which had even Boudreau admitting his teams effort wasnt there. We were a step behind all night long, Boudreau said, after the Wild managed just two shots in the opening 20 minutes and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Those doldrums stand in sharp contrast to the Jets, who made NHL history in their season opener on Thursday in Winnipeg, becoming just the third team in league history to win its season opener after trailing by three goals in the third period. Winnipeg fell behind 4-1 to Carolina in the third before rallying for a 5-4 overtime win.Ironically, the last team to accomplish that feat was Minnesota, just last season. The Wild trailed 4-1 in the third period at Colorado in the 2015-16 season opener, and stormed back to win 5-4.This young Jets team, which has made the playoffs just once and has not won a playoff game since moving to Winnipeg from Atlanta in 2011, got some signs of a bright future in the comeback, including the first NHL goal from rookie right winger Patrik Laine, who the Jets plucked second overall in last summers draft. It was an amazing feeling, said Laine, who stands 6-5 and is expected to be an imposing force at forward for the Jets this season and into the future. You score your first NHL goal just once, so it was nice to get it in the first game. It was amazing to feel the atmosphere at the rink. After having the hot-and-cold Ondrej Pavelec in goal since the days they were the Thrashers, the Jets have undertaken a youth movement in the crease as well, putting Pavelec on waivers and inserting youngster Connor Hellebuyck for the opening-night start. With all of that youth in important roles, Jets coach Paul Maurice said the first win, and the first road trip, are important learning opportunities for players more used to major junior and/or college hockey. Its a different league, its a different style of game and its a hard game to play in, Maurice said. The confidence goes a long way.The season-opening loss for Minnesota was a rarity. The Wild had gone 9-4-2 in their previous 15 openers, which was the highest points percentage in NHL history. With Boudreau still learning how to coach this team, and the team still learning how to play for him, the ability to bounce back will get an early test versus Winnipeg.China NHL Jerseys . Adidas NHL Jerseys Wholesale . PAUL, Minn.Robert Allenby has returned to Australia ready to revive his tour golf career and silence critics after enduring a year from hell - on course and off.Allenby on Wednesday revealed hed contemplated quitting a thousand times while dealing with mental torment of not wanting to be seen in public which precipitated his steep career slide over the past two years. But the 45-year-old says hes finally emerged from the darkest period of his life ready to reclaim full playing rights on the US PGA Tour.Allenby, a 20-year US tour veteran who has earned a tick under $40 million in America, banked just $33,070 in a dismal 2016 season in which he survived just two cuts in 23 events. The alarming decline has left him with only conditional US tour status - and likely a maximum of eight tour events - for 2017.Allenby admits his infamous Hawaii episode in January last year, when he suspected he was drugged at a bar and reported being beaten and robbed when blacked out, precipitated his fall due to the image battering he endured.A local man was later jailed for using Allenbys missing credit cards. That was by far the lowest point. Just the attention that it caused, said Allenby on the eve of teeing up in the NSW Open at Stonecutters Ridge in Sydney..I still stick by my story because detectives and myself know and even today its the same story.People dont even know that the guys in jail for what happened to me in Hawaii.Allenby said a story on the Golf Channel about the Hawaii episode - which he claimed was full or errors - sent him spiralling towards depression. Not to apologise when they were wrong made it pretty tough, he said.Made it that I didnt want to be out of the golf course, didnt want to be seen - didnt want to be seen in public. It really became a very stressful thing for me and thats when the reality of quitting was really high on the list.ddddddddddddIts only through my wife Kym and my kids and my family that it just pulled me back.Otherwise I would have gone a year ago. No question.I would have found my own little hole and just stayed in it for the rest of my life.Allenby was also shattered at having people I thought were close friends telling him he should no longer be involved in his own charity - which has earned almost $30 million for children with cancer.I started that when I was 20 and now Im 45, he said.My whole reason why I went into it was because my buddy died when he was 13. We were both the same age.At the end of the day, Ive done a lot more good than bad.I havent killed anyone. I havent taken drugs - apart from being drugged - and I really havent done a lot wrong. Were all humans and humans make mistakes. Whether I made a mistake that was caused by me, I will always own up to it so youve got to live with it too.Hopefully others will live with it too.Allenby, who was involved in a public spat with an Australian caddie after sacking him mid-round last year, described an incident where he was removed from a US casino this year while reportedly intoxicated as just a farce. That was bullsh-t. Got dropped straight away, he said. The only player in history to win Australian golfs Triple crown - the Open, Masters and PGA in the same season - says hes now at peace with himself and the world. While conceding hed love to prove the critics wrong, his chief motivation this summer is to win the Australasian tours Order of Merit to gain exemption into next years British Open and, most importantly, more tournaments in the US. Wes Morgan is no Franz Beckenbauer, according to former Nottingham Forest chairman Frank Clark, but he says there may be a few people at the club who regret selling him to Leicester.Clark presided over the club when Forest sold Morgan to their local Championship rivals for a fee believed to be in the region of £1m in 2012.Morgan, 32, is now on the cusp of captaining the Foxes to the Premier League title and Clark insists he fully deserves the glory. Morgans fairytale rise Former team-mate Gregor Robertson talks about Wes Morgans rise to the top Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, the 1979 European Cup winner with Forest said: What I admired about Wes was his attitude. He was a bit of a throwback - a warrior.Hes no Beckenbauer, and he never thought he was going to be Beckenbauer, but him and Robert Huth are what I would call no nonsense defenders and theyre as good as any pairing in the league at the moment. There will be a few people in and around Nottingham Forest, or maybe a few who arent there anymore, who will be thinking perhaps I was wrong about him. They want him healthy for the stretch run.Cruz, 30, did not practice this week. He was able to do some running on the side with trainers.Veteran Dwayne Harris and undrafted rookie Roger Lewis are expected to take most of Cruzs snaps on Monday Night Football (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN/WatchESPN). Harris started against the Eagles because of his blocking ability, and Lewis caught a 30-yard touchdown pass later in the contest against the Eagles in Cruzs place.Tavarres King should also be in the Giants wide receiver mix against the Bengals. After having missed most of the past two seasons, Cruz played over 90 percent of the snaps the first seven weeks of the season. But the Giants appeared to be scalingg back his playing time coming out of the bye week.dddddddddddd.I think coach is just taking care of me a little bit, Cruz said last week. He came up to me and said that they were going to move some guys around and just making sure that everyone is fresh and that they are using all of our tools out there.Cruz was injured while making a 40-yard reception down the right sideline against the Eagles. He stayed on the field for the remainder of the drive but could be seen looking at the ankle after trying to run. The former Pro Bowl receiver had an X-ray and MRI, and both came back negative. The Giants and Cruz remain optimistic about his long-term outlook this year. Theyve been extra-cautious with him throughout the week given his injury history. The Giants are trying to prevent the ankle injury from mushrooming into more leg problems.Cruz had knee, calf and groin injuries over the past two-plus years. He has 25 catches for 377 yards and one touchdown this season. ' ' '
SAN DIEGO -- These are not good times for the San Diego Padres. On Saturday night, third baseman Yangervis Solartes wife, Yuliette, died at age 31 due to complications from her fight against cancer. Were broken-hearted for Yangervis, Padres manager Andy Green said Sunday. We know he and his family have been dealing with this throughout the season. Right now, there are things that are so much more important to baseball. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Padres took a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies and absorbed a three-game sweep at Coors Field.Solarte is away from the team. Catcher Derek Norris is day-to-day with an injured finger, and the Padres are playing without a right-handed-hitting outfielder. General manager A.J. Preller starts his 30-day, Major League Baseball-mandated suspension Monday. And any help that might be coming from El Paso is another three days away because the Chihuahuas are headed to Tuesday nights Triple-A Championship Game against International League champion Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (New York Yankees) after winning the Pacific Coast League championship Saturday night. On Monday night, the ailing Padres open a 10-game homestand. As if they need a reminder of how tough this season has been, the Padres (62-87) open the homestand with three games against Arizona (63-86). Over the last two weeks of the season, the Padres and Diamondbacks will play six times essentially to see who finishes last in the National League West and possibly enters the offseason with the second-worst record in the National League. Not that matters are much better for the Diamondbacks. While Green seems secure in his job, Arizona manager Chip Hale, his former boss, is one of several Diamondbacks leaders who could be two weeks away from the unemployment line.Matters are that dire in the southwest corner of the United States. The matchup Monday will see Arizona right-hander Braden Shipley (4-3, 5.56 ERA) oppose left-hander Clayton Richard (2-3, 3.00 ERA). Richard is 2-2 with a 1.70 ERA in eight appearances (six starts) since returning to the Padres in August as a free agent.Richards return to San Diego is easily explained. One, Clayton and Ashley Richard enjoy living in San Diego. Two, as Clayton says, The Padres promised me a chance to start.Shipley, 24, the Diamondbacks first-round pick (15th overall) in the 2013 draft, will be making his ninth start -- and second at Petco Park -- after two straight appearances out of the Arizona bullpen. Its different, Shipley said of the second and third relief outings in his 91-appearance professional career. As pitchers, were so routine oriented that my whole pregame ritual was thrown off a bit.Shipley picked up his fourth win of his rookie season as a reliever against the Rockies on Wednesday, although he allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings. In fact, his ERA in two relief appearances is 9.39.He made one previous start against the Padres on Aug. 21 in San Diego and took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits -- including homers to left-handed-hitting outfielders Travis Jankowski and Alex Dickerson -- in 5 1/3 innings.Richard absorbed the loss the previous day when he made a pair of throwing errors that led to two unearned runs -- the only runs he allowed over six innings in a 2-1 loss. In four starts since, Richard is 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA -- and the Padres are 4-0.Clearance Air Jordan 13 Online . The (11-11-4) Jets are seventh in the Central Division with 26 points. Its a bit disappointing for me, Drogba said. Once again, I hate losing.Drogbas first attempt ricocheted off goalkeeper Petr Cech then the next off Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before he converted with a shot to the right upper corner of the net in the second minute of stoppage time in the first half. For me it is a good opportunity as well to see many young players. One of those is new defender Rob Holding, who made his Arsenal debut.Five MLS players were back from the 2015 All-Star team.MLS teams are 9-4-1 and have outscored opponents 25-23 in the leagues summer showcase event, including a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur last year in Colorado.I would say overall its less aggressive, Wenger said of the All-Star Game. These players come for a show, theyre happy to be together. Its not life or death. ... The contacts are less strong. Its a more friendly game. The privately funded, $100 million stadium broke ground in October 2012 and is known for its technological capabilities and other unique elements such as food truck options for concessions with an expansive grassy area for kids to play or watch a game on the huge video board. The seats are also three different shades of blue with a few red ones mixed in to honor the colors of past Bay Area soccer teams. The steep seating provides an increased noise level and keeps fans closer to the action. There is also an all-standing section behind one goal. ' ' '
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico -- Pat Perez won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba on Sunday in his third start since returning from shoulder surgery.Perez closed with a 4-under 67 for a two-stroke victory over third-round leader Gary Woodland on the Greg Norman-designed El Camaleon course. Perez finished at 21-under 263.I had an attitude that I cant really repeat, but I had a lot of thoughts going on, Perez said. The main one was I wanted to stay aggressive. I knew if I just stayed aggressive I was seeing the line great on the putting green. ... This type of grass and these greens, if you can get it on line you can make them.I just saw the line, I thought I could make them all and I just had a confidence. I had an entirely different attitude than I would have had a few years ago. It was definitely a different win than last time. Last time, I was a little more scared coming down the stretch. I didnt really believe and this and that. This time, I really had like this calmness, kind of like a madness to get it done.Perez had surgery on his shoulder in February. He returned with a tie for 33rd in Malaysia, and tied for seventh last week in Las Vegas. When you hit 40 and then you have surgery, its like `Oh, God, you know, what are we going to do? Perez said. I had sleepless nights, I had a lot of sleepless nights wondering, `What are we going to do? How are we going to do this? Whats going to happen here? What would happen here? Because all you do is sit around and think. Thats all you have time is to sit around. Youre just sitting in a sling doing nothing and you cant hit balls for five months. I had a lot of time to think about a lot of things.Perez shot a 62 on Saturday to pull within a stroke of Woodland. The 40-year-old former Arizona State player birdied five of the first eight holes and had a bogey on the par-4 12th.In a lot of ways, when you win youve got to have a lot of things go your way, Perez said. Youve got to make a lot of putts, you need some help from other players. Its everything. Its so hard to win. But I just had this different look about it this week and Ill hopefully carry that through for a while. He also won the 2009 Bob Hope Classic.I guess Im just one of those late-maturers, Perez said. I know I was sort of a punk and all that early on, but I think I learned a lot about myself in the last nine, 10 months and it just paid off this week. I couldnt be more excited about whats going on.Woodland birdied the final two holes for a 70.Russell Knox was third at 18 under after a 66.I wasnt all that comfortable out there. Knox said. This course kind of makes you put the steer on sometimes, but I made seven birdies. A couple mistakes, but overall starting the day I would have taken 66.Chez Reavie (67), Kevin Streelman (65) and Scott Piercy (70) were 17 under.Great first, third and fourth rounds, just struggled there on Friday, which cost me winning the tournament, but a lot of good stuff, Streelman said, pointing to a second-round 73. Niels Kristian Iversen has agreed to help out the Stars The final spot in the Norfolk side has gone to Kai Huckenbeck who is a former German U21 champion and two-time winner of the German National Title. Chapman said on the signing: We have to look towards the future and by bringing in Kai as an asset we are doing that. At 23-years-old he has a bright future and he can go very far in the sport. The Stars have also added a number eight to their squad for the new season. Simon Lambert, who had previously agreed to be a reserve, will fill the role. The position enables riders to replace any rider in the main body of the side during the season. A reminder of how Poole Pirates won the last Elite League title Lakeside Hammers have also completed their line-up for the new season. GP star Andreas Jonsson will spearhead the Purfleet outfit in 2016 having been a stand out performer for the club in 2015. He will be joined by fellow Swede Kim Nilsson who impressed last season despite injuries.British racer Lewis Bridger is making his return to racing in 2016 replacing Bjarne Pedersen who was released from the line-up due to a number of fixture clashes.Co-promoter Jon Cook said: Kelvin Tatum (team coach) and I met with Lewis and were very impressed with his preparations to return to speedway. Lewis is Mr Entertainment around the Arena, in 2014 he hit top form andd we expect him to return to and surpass that level with the support of the club.dddddddddddd.Hammer of the year Edward Kennett will also be back for another year with the club, and is likely to share a spot with Richard Lawson at the start of the season due to a number of fixture clashes in the Elite League and Premier League Cup. Leicester are racing (on) Saturdays which fits my racing schedule perfect. I have ridden for Leicester before but this time I feel a lot more confident, especially after a good season in 2015. David (Hemsley) has been good to deal with, the team looks solid and Im sure we will have a great year.Swindon Robins were forced into a team change following the news that Dakota North would not be riding in Britain this season. Boss Alun Rossiter quickly swooped for Ipswich asset Rohan Tungate to fill the void. He said: Rohan was in my plans at the start of the year, he was somebody he looked at closely but we decided to go a different way because we had a few more points to play with. We spoke two or three times over the winter and he was always somebody in the back of my mind, so when we knew Dak wouldnt be coming I knew he was who I wanted to speak to. Andy Walker says Celtic have sound claims for favouritism ahead of Sundays Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers.Rangers are generally available at 4/1 while Celtic are on offer at around 4/6 for the Hampden showdown, live on Sky Sports from 11am on Sunday. And Walker, who played for Celtic in two spells between 1987 and 1996, believes the bookmakers have it spot on considering the merits of the respective squads. Speaking to Sky Sports Now, he said: Yes, they are comfortable favourites for me. I think when you look at what the bookies have got Celtic priced at with Rangers 4/1 or 5/1, I think its a fair reflection on the strength of each teams squad.Celtic go into this one as big favourites.Rangers manager Mark Warburton is reported to have labelled the game as just another football match, but Sky Sports pundit Walker believes he could not be further from the truth.Im born and bred in Glasgow and I went to these games as a youngster for many years and eventually I was lucky enough to play in one, he said. Mark Warburton says Sundays Glasgow Derby is just another game It blew me away, just the noise, the passion, the sheer determination and everything about the fixture. I dont think Mark will have experienced it before. That said, I think it is a bit of a free-hit for Mark Warburton. You have to remember this is very early in his Rangers career. Hes only had two transfer windows to put a team together, had very little money to spend and I dont think anyone would be looking at Mark Warburton and criticising him if Rangers lose. Ronny Deila in trouble if he loses, according to Andy Walker On the other hand, if Celtic lose you look at Ronny Deila and you can throw up a number of losses that have been painful for the Celtic supporters. Im thinking really of the Champions League so I think Celtic are under more pressure to deliver at the weekend and well need to wait and see if it is a pressure they can handle. Fellow Sky Sports Now guest Paul Dickov is another to question Warburtons claim, insisting no other game comes near it. Celtic striker, Leigh Griffiths, explains why this weekends Old-Firm derby against Rangers is as big as any. The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker, capped 10 times by Scotland, said: Im looking forward to it and Andy hit the nail on the head there. When you watch these games, the atmosphere just blows you away and it is like no other game I have ever been to.And I think Mark is playing it down a bit saying its just another game. Being born in Glasgow this is nowhere near just another game.I think Rangers have a decent chance. Defensively theyve not done well of late but at the same time in players like Harry Forrester - an old player of mine - they have match winners throughout the team.Celtic will be big favourites, of course they will, but its a game Im looking forward to.Watch the Glasgow derby on Sky Sports 2 HD from 11am this Sunday.By purchasing a Sky Sports Day Pass for £6.99 or Sky Sports Week Pass for £10.99, you can enjoy access to all seven Sky Sports channels and watch on a TV with a NOW TV Box or on a range of devices. Also See:Larsson: Glasgow derby uniqueDeila needs Rangers winRangers can cause upsetNew pitch for HampdenWholesale Nike Running Shoes .com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward James Neal on injured reserve Tuesday. Misbah, however, was set to miss the Hamilton Test anyway, after returning home on Sunday evening following the death of his father-in-law.While the Pakistan captain was fined 40% of his match fee, the rest of the team was fined 20% after the side was ruled to have been two overs short of its target of 103 overs after time allowances were taken into consideration. Misbah was previously found guilty of a minor over-rate offence during the Oval Test against England in August; this was his second minor over-rate offence in the same format in a period of 12 months, and as per the rules two offences in 12 mmonths equate to fines and a suspension from the immediately subsequent match in the same format.ddddddddddddThe charge was laid by on-field umpires Ian Gould and S Ravi, third umpire Simon Fry, and fourth official Shaun Haig. He had only briefly taken the field during New Zealands chase on the fourth day and was scheduled to leave the country on Sunday evening. He had made scores of 31 and 13 in the Christchurch Test.Misbah had previously missed only one Test since he was appointed captain in 2010: he was unavailable for a 2012 Test in Galle, due to a suspension for slow over-rates.Pakistan are currently trailing 0-1 in the two-Test series after an eight-wicket loss in Christchurch. Cheap Nike Shoes China . Cote was eligible to become a free agent Feb. 15. Cote helped running back Jon Cornish run for a league-high 1,813 rushing yards en route to being named the leagues most outstanding player. The rest of the hockey world began narrowing the gap a long time ago. But make no mistake, Canada remains the team to beat in these tournaments, having won four of the past five best-on-best events dating back to the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, and then adding victories at the last World Cup in 2004, the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and of course the most recent test, the 2014 Games in Sochi. Overall, going back to the inaugural Canada Cup (later renamed World Cup) in 1976, Canada has won eight of the 12 best-on-best events staged in the history of the sport. So of course the road to victory in this years World Cup goes through the host team. But that is not to say Canada is unbeatable, however. Far from it.How Team Canada could winWhere to start? The back-to-back Olympic champs are loaded up front, led by?Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Joe Thornton and Claude Giroux. Team Canada is?once again a whos who of superstars up and down its four forward lines.A big key was that head coach Mike Babcock identified early in training camp the two wingers who will play with Crosby -- ?Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron?--?potentially solving a riddle, finding a line fit for his best player, that had perplexed him throughout the past two Olympics. That trio showed immediate chemistry during the first day of camp.In goal, the 1-2-3 punch of Carey Price, Braden Holtby and Corey Crawford is matched perhaps only by Team USAs netminders in terms of quality and depth, although most observers agree that Price is the best goalie in the world when hes back in form. The coaching staff, led by Babcock, has star- and brain-power. It features Joel Quenneville, Claude Julien, Barry Trotz and up-and-comer Bill Peters. This team will be expertly prepared.Price was steady in Sochi when tested, but never had to steal a game, as Canadas keep-away, puck-possession strategy on the bigger ice delivered a surgical, undefeated Olympic performance. Now that Team Canada is back on NHL-sized ice, the system has been tweaked. But the stars both on the ice and behind the bench are aiming for a similar result -- and desire to own the puck. How Team Canada could loseDuncan Keiths?absence because of innjury is potentially devastating.dddddddddddd. If this team has any soft underbelly, its on the left side of its defense. Marc-Edouard Vlasic has proven to be up to the task, elevating his game both in Sochi and in the NHL the past few years to become one of the leagues top defensemen, but he doesnt have the offensive talent that Keith does, and the drop-off to an aging Jay Bouwmeester and Team Canada newcomer Jake Muzzin is real. It has led to right-handed Alex Pietrangelo beginning camp playing on the left side, which is something Babcock would rather avoid but clearly feels has no choice but to do.If Canada falters, critics will wonder why a guy like Kris Letang?or P.K. Subban,?though both right-handed, werent named after their outstanding seasons. The right-left defense debate will rage on in hockey-mad Canada if the host team loses.Another wild card for Canada is Prices form. The goalie missed most of last season with a knee injury. Its been nine months since he has played a real game. Can he shake off the rust in time to lead Canada to a World Cup title? Would Babcock consider pulling him for Holtby or Crawford midway through the tourney -- like he did Martin Brodeur for Roberto Luongo at the 2010 Games -- if he feels Price hasnt found his A-game? Its something to monitor, to be sure. What to watch for: As Stamkos goes, so goes CanadaStamkos has waited for this chance for a long time. A broken leg robbed him of a trip to Sochi in 2014 in what would have been his first Olympics. Hes champing at the bit to make his mark at this stage for his native country. He also happens to be the best pure goal scorer on this ridiculously talented team. He has spent most of camp and pretournament on a line with Logan Couture and Toews, a very responsible, two-way unit that obviously still has offensive firepower. Stamkos observed during camp that Toews was underrated offensively, that he is always on the right side of the puck, which creates opportunities for a shooter like Stamkos. If Canada does win again, look for the Tampa Bay Lightning captain to be a central figure. ' ' '
New York Giants running back Shane Vereen was placed on injured reserve Tuesday for the second time this season with a triceps injury. This one ends his season.Backup quarterback Ryan Nassib also landed on IR with an elbow injury.Vereen, 27, had his season derailed by the triceps he originally tore in his left arm during a Week 3 loss to the Eagles. He was placed on IR and later activated prior to a Week 14 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. He left that game early with a concussion but returned for Sundays victory over the Detroit Lions.Vereen could be seen with his left arm dangling after he lunged for a fourth-quarter pass against the Lions. He also fumbled earlier in the contest near the goal line after being sandwiched by a pair of Lions defenders near the goal line.Yes, he reinjured his triceps, coach Ben McAdoo said during a Monday night conference call with reporters. Its unfortunate. He worked his tail off to get back to where he was. Im disappointed for Shane. The loss of Vereen is a blow to the Giants. Vereen was their second-leading receiver last season, and his versatility was an asset to the offense as their running back on passing downs. The Giants were optimistic about adding him to a struggling unit down the stretch. Their offense is currently ranked 27th in yards, and theyre 24th in points per game at 19.4.Vereen adds a unique dimension with his ability to catch passes out of the backfield.Hes a good playmaker, McAdoo said prior to his return. The more of those you have on the field at the same time, the better off youll be.Vereen finishes this season with 11 receptions. He had 59 last year. The Giants will again rely on Rashad Jennings and rookie Paul Perkins in the final two weeks of the regular season and the playoffs, should they qualify.Nassib had dealt with elbow pain earlier this season, but he was a late scratch Sunday against the Lions. After taking two big hits this week -- losing at home and dropping back-to-back games for the first time all season -- Indiana struck back by playing its most complete game of the year.LONDON -- Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori tend to linger when they get together. Their latest matchup set a record.Murray survived the longest three-set match in ATP Finals history when he prevailed against Nishikori 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday. They needed 3 hours, 20 minutes, to separate themselves. The first set alone took 85 minutes.Murray, 2-0 in his group, can clinch a semifinal berth for the first time in four years with a win over U.S. Open champion Stan Wawrinka on Friday.Wawrinka eliminated Marin Cilic from contention 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) in an almost two-hour-long late match.Losing to No. 5-ranked Nishikori would have hurt Murrays chances of holding off Novak Djokovic to keep the No. 1 ranking.Murray relieved Djokovic of the top ranking last week, and Murray believed it would be a fitting end to the year to play the Serb for the ranking and ATP Finals title on Sunday in the final. For the tournament and stuff, for everyone interested in tennis, that would probably be the perfect way to finish the year, Murray said. For me and, Im sure, for Novak, both of our goals would be to try to win the event. It doesnt change for us as players.Murray admitted he abused himself on court more than usual while trying to figure out how to overcome Nishikori. He could have won in two sets, for sure, Murray said.He moves the ball around extremely well, better than anyone maybe. It was physically tough. I wasnt able to dictate many of the points, it felt. More so in the third set I was able to. But not in the first couple of sets. I was having to run, fight, get as many balls back as I could.I feel OK right now. Its normally the next day when you feel stiff and sore, but theres hoppefully three days left in the season, and Ill give my best to get through as many matches as I can.ddddddddddddFor all of Murrays achievements this year, this was the first time he played a top-five opponent since June, when he lost to Djokovic in the French Open final.Nishikori was one of only three players to beat him in the intervening five months, edging a five-setter in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. They also went five sets and almost five hours in the Davis Cup in March.Nishikori extended their first set on Wednesday when he saved a set point at 6-5 down, but he needed four set points to take the opener on a wide forehand by Murray.Murray immediately broke to start the second. Nishikori tied it at 4-4. But Murray broke straight back, and had to save two set points to force a decider.Murray has played more matches than ever this season and he looked drained, but Nishikoris decision-making was clouded by fatigue, and he lost his serve in the third game. When a double fault made it 4-1 to Murray, the Scot finally had some breathing space and the end in sight.Nishikori showed commendable resolve to retrieve one break, but Murray served out at the second time of asking for his 21st successive win.Murray has a chance to match his best streak of 22, from June to August, when he plays Wawrinka on Friday to end group action.Wawrinka saved one set point in the first set, and dominated the tiebreaker. Cilic broke to open the second, but Wawrinka got him back and served too good in the tiebreaker again for his 11th win in 13 matchups with Cilic. ' ' '
SEATTLE -- Richard Sherman saw the poise from Carson Wentz on film. He saw the correct decisions being made by the rookie and the success Philadelphia was having thanks to Wentz.Sherman also knew Wentz had yet to see a defense like Seattles. He was pretty poised. He wasnt shook, hes a rook. Thats what he is. Hes been kind of getting an easy walk through this league, Sherman said. And then he ran into some people that weve been there before. Weve seen your looks, we know your plays. Hes going to learn from it and hes going to work hard and come back.Wentz and the rest of the Eagles received an education in what it takes to reach the top of the NFC on Sunday, thanks to Seattles 26-15 victory on Sunday . It was the fifth straight road loss and showed the thin line the Eagles are still walking between being competitive and, for the most part, being dominated. While Wentz showed flashes of greatness against Seattles standout secondary, he also was 5 of 14 for 25 yards and two interceptions during a stretch of the second and third quarters as Philadelphia watched its 7-6 lead turn into a 23-7 deficit. On a day Philadelphia needed to be close to perfect to hang with the class of the NFC West, the Eagles made too many careless mistakes.I think its a benchmark for us. You look at certain games on your schedule and obviously this is one, Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson said. They are a team that is playing extremely well. We were coming off of a good win a week ago. These are benchmark games. No mistake stood out more than wide receiver Nelson Agholor not lining up correctly on a second quarter play that became a 57-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz. Agholor was not close enough to the line of scrimmage and did not check with the official nearest to him, who was signaling for Agholor to move forward. Instead of a touchdown that would have given Philadelphia a 14-13 lead, the Eagles didnt find the end zone again until late in the fourth quarter. That was a big play and mental errors like that you cant have, Agholor said. I know better than that and I shouldnt have done that.Seattle took advantage of Philadelphias lapses and also showed the Eagles defense has a way to go to join the elite of the NFC. Russell Wilson threw for 272 yards and a touchdown, and caught a 15-yard touchdown on a trick play pass from wide receiver Doug Baldwin. The Seahawks finished with 439 total yards -- the third time this year the Eagles have allowed more than 400 yards -- and had three drives inside the Philadelphia 30 that resulted in just six points. The 11-point margin could have been much larger if Seattle was better in the red zone.Weve been able to do a lot already, weve had a good season already, Wilson said. Theres just more we can do and theres more out there. Thats the exciting part for us.Heres what else to know from Seattles third straight win:ABSENT RECEIVERS: For the first three quarters, Philadelphia had almost no production from its wide receivers. Jordan Matthews and Dorial Green-Beckham finished with a combined 10 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. But through three quarters, the duo had exactly two catches for 15 yards, the same amount of yards as Wilson had on his TD catch.INJURY BUG: Both Seattle and Philadelphia suffered significant injuries that could have lasting impact.Seattle lost running back C.J. Prosise for a significant amount of time with a shoulder blade injury. Starting cornerback DeShawn Shead and safety Earl Thomas both left with hamstring injuries.Philadelphia lost running backs Ryan Mathews (knee) and Darren Sproles (ribs) to injuries, although Pederson did not know the severity or length of the injuries after the game.In total, 17 players missed at least one play during the game due to an apparent injury.BIG PLAY SEAHAWKS: Seattle has rediscovered a knack for big plays on offense.Starting with a 72-yard touchdown run by Prosise on Seattles fifth offensive play, the Seahawks had six plays of 20 yards or more. Wilson found Baldwin for completions of 44 and 34 yards and also hit Jimmy Graham on a 35-yard touchdown in the second quarter.Seattle had five plays of 20 or more yards in last weeks win over New England.Youve seen us make shifts in the past, this is one of those big shifts for us, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. He wore a hoodie and a hat instead of a firesuit as he made one of his few public appearances at a track since his season ended in July because of a concussion. Earnhardt posed for selfies with fans and seemed in good spirits watching practice from the pit box on Saturday at Dover International Speedway.Earnhardt enjoyed being one of the guys again at Hendrick Motorsports. He assisted with his No. 88 team and took an interest in helping crew chief Greg Ives during Gordons practice run on a session interrupted by rain.He was even teased by friend Elliott Sadler as they waited out the rain.I didnt know you had your own entourage following you around, said Sadler, laughing. Thats pretty cool, man.The 41-year-old Earnhardt said he was feeling better, though he didnt know when he would be cleared to return to racing. Earnhardt has used a race simulator to aid in his rehabilitation, which helped him work on his motor skills, and hes added more exercises to his daily routine. But the symptoms linger.Walking through the garage and signing autographs is tough, he said. Your balance gets bad. A lot of it is visual, a lot of the things happening with your peripheral (vision) and stuff. Thats something thats going to challenge it. Thats pretty much it. My eyes got a lot better. I didnt really notice issues with my eyes quite as much anymore. The balance stuff is still needing some work.Earnhardt, long NASCARs most popular driver, has said he hoped to be cleared for the 2017 Daytona 500. But when that date might come? He has no idea.Im not ready, I know that. Ill know when Im ready, he said. Its not one of them things that has a schedule. You dont know when youre going to be like, `all right, Im good. Lets go do this.It was an odd sight: Earnhardt in street clothes talking with Gordon in a firesuit in the garage. Gordon retired at the end of last season before he was pressed into service by team owner Rick Hendrick to replace Earnhardt in select races.Gordon will substitute for him in one more race in the 88. Alex Bowman will drive in the other raaces left this season.ddddddddddddWith a boost from a two-time Daytona 500 champion, Gordon topped the speed chart with a lap of 160.514 mph. Kyle Larson was seventh on the speed chart and the fastest of the 16 Chase drivers at 158.898.Teammates were excited to have Junior back.I havent seen a lot of Dale away from the race track. I completely understand how difficult it is to come to the track and feel productive, six-time champion Jimmie Johnson said. I can only imagine how hard it is to go to the track and watch your car race and then also how boring it would be because we do have the coolest job to sit in that race car.Its not clear when Earnhardt was injured. He was in crashes at Michigan on June 12 and Daytona on July 2, and his symptoms originally led Earnhardt to believe his problem was allergy or sinus related. He raced at Kentucky on July 9 not feeling well, and when his condition didnt improve, he saw a neurological specialist who diagnosed concussion-like symptoms.I feel so much better than I did five weeks ago, Earnhardt said.Earnhardt has made other public appearances and tweeted that he spent Friday night cheering on local Mooresville High in his first high school football game in 20 years.I told (my fiancee) Amy, I said, `Man, lets just go so we can say we went. I didnt even know it was homecoming, so that was pretty neat, he said.Earnhardt said going out in crowded, public events helped make him feel normal again. But he wont feel complete until his symptoms subside. If I come to an environment like this and go walk through the garage and get into those busy moments and I dont have any reaction to it, I would consider that being 100 percent normal, he said.Earnhardt once revealed in an interview that he thought hed driven with concussion symptoms several times in 2001. His admission led to a tightened medical review policy in which Earnhardt had to be seen by a doctor before he could race after he was briefly knocked unconscious in a 2002 crash at Dover. He missed two races during the 2012 Chase because of a pair of concussions suffered in a six-race stretch and sitting out those events immediately ended any title shot.Earnhardt said there was no deadline for him to get cleared in time to possibly race in February at the Daytona 500.If there is, he said. I dont know it. ' ' '
Louis van Gaal insists Marouane Fellainis elbow on Robert Huth was a normal reaction to having his hair pulled. In the first half of Sundays 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Leicester, referee Michael Oliver failed to spot an incident inside the area whereby Huth tugged at Fellainis hair, before the Belgium international midfielder lashed out with an elbow and then a hand. Both Fellaini and Huth could receive retrospective bans for the incident, but Van Gaal insists the Leicester defender is more to blame. Fellaini could face retrospective action for the incident He told Sky Sports: When you look at what Huth is doing with Fellaini, thats a penalty. Shall I grab your hair? What is your reaction, when I grab your hair? Your hair is much shorter than Fellaini, but when I do that, what are you doing then?I think thats a normal reaction. You have to first pick Huth, because he was the guy who grabbed the hair of Fellaini. I think the reaction of Fellaini is like a human being. Souness: Fellaini wont escape ban Graeme Souness had his say on the incident in the first half with Robert Huth Van Gaal, who has spoken out previously about the need for video technology in football, again reiterated his stance that referees need help.It was a very difficult match, nowadays you cannot control it by yourself as a referee. It is so difficult. Claudio Ranieri shakes hands with Van Gaal after the game Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, commenting on the incident at half-time, said Fellaini will be lucky to escape without a ban, but believes Huth was also responsible for the tangle. He said: This is no surprise. They are both big, strong aggressive men especially in the air. There is a bit of a tangle and I tell you what, Huth is lucky as well as Fellaini. I say Huth is lucky because he has caught him under the chin. If that catches him full square across his face, then hes lost several teeth or broke his nose and I dont think he can stay on the pitch. Report: Man Utd 1-1 Leicester Leicester must wait to claim the Premier League title after being held to a 1-1 draw by Man Utd In that respect, he is lucky, but Fellaini wont escape a ban for that. I just cant see it.With regards to the game, Van Gaal said the performance was one of Uniteds best of the season, but admits the draw makes it tougher for them to gain a top four spot. Claudio Ranieri says he will be flying back from Italy on Monday and will not watch Tottenhams crucial game against Chelsea We played one of our best matches in the season, and it was not enough, he said.We created a lot of chances, we have to score, but we didnt score, and they score out of a set play again. But it wasnt enough as Manly endured their worst finish in over a decade to come fourth last. With Lyon retired, former Melbourne pivot Green is the man who is charged with taking Manly back to the finals in 2017.Alongside Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves, Green is the key piece of the puzzle under former NSW and Kangaroos five-eighth Barrett.New Zealand forward Martin Taupau believes Green is the right man for Manly. It is a great initiative for the club to sign Blake Green. He is a quality player, Taupau told AAP.He had a great year this year. He showed what sort of player he is and played in the grand final. The different combinations really hurt us this year. We had Dylan Walker playing at No.6 and then that changed. We really need stability there. It is crucial for us and Blake will bring that. Plus hee is a talented player.ddddddddddddHe is part of what is building for us. He is the type of player that can take this club forward and I am excited for what lies ahead. Two weeks ago Taupau re-signed with Manly until the end of 2020, after joining them from Wests Tigers for 2016.Taupau said one of his man reasons for recommitting was to play under Barrett who he said has tremendous potential as a head coach.Barrett struggled in his debut year which was rocked by a number of injuries, allegations of match fixing and a legal stoush with the clubs major sponsor. It was a great show of faith, Taupau said.We have some great senior players there and some youngsters coming through.Trent is a great coach, who knows his football. There were certain elements in his game that he didnt have control over.We have the majority of our salary cap on the sidelines and some inexperienced players come in.It is all about cohesion and we just didnt have that. But there are plenty of reasons to be positive about next year. As he walks down the steps of the stand that now bears his name, Graham Taylor points out the parts of the ground that he remembers from his first spell as Watford manager in the late seventies and early eighties.None of the old stands remain, but he speaks with such clarity about the terraced areas, the family enclosure, the stand where his good mate and former Chairman Sir Elton John used to watch from, that youd think they were still there. Ill shut up in a minute! he says, mindful he has a community engagement to fulfil shortly after our interview. Its changed very much and all for the better. Im so pleased to see it. And sitting here in my stand! No, it has my name on it. Its not my stand but its fantastic, I appreciate that so much. Quique Sanchez Flores (left) and Odion Ighalo (right) have helped Watford climb the table As the club prepares for Saturdays match at home to Leeds United in the last 16 of the FA Cup, memories are jogged of Watfords most successful cup run, when Taylor led them to the final in 1984.I dont want to remember too much of it because we lost to Everton in the final, Taylor recalls. And I think the players that I managed during my career will say, Yeah, nice fella, but poor loser! It was a fantastic achievement though; the only time Watford have got to the final and to achieve that bearing in mind the level of performance, bearing in mind the players we had. It was really a first class job just to get there. But it was disappointing. I dont care what anybody says, its always disappointing if you get to Wembley and lose. Taylor speaks to Peter Kennedy (right) during a Watford match against Chelsea Taylor was 32 and managing Lincoln City when he answered Sir Eltons call and took the Watford job back in 1977. The club was in the Fourth Division, but just five years later they had reached the top flight. In the 1982/83 season they finished second in the league behind an all-conquering Liverpool side. It was no flash in the pan, as they proved the following season when reaching that FA Cup Final. John Barnes was the headline act but Taylor stresses it was a team effort. To be fair there were a lot of other players who havent had as much recognition as John, I mention Luther Blissett because hes a local boy who did ever so well. There was John McClelland who was a centre back. He had pace but more than anything else he could read the game and he did it from the back for the team so we could get 1-0 up and then through Johns leadership we could hold that lead. Taylor and chairman Elton John on the Vicarage Road pitch And off the field, he was backed by a supportive board, led by Sir Elton. Fantastic chairman, never interfered at all. His view was, Were paying him to be our manager, were paying him to run our team, to select the team. If it goes wrong its his fault not ours! But that helped because you could talk to the directors about the team. The directors have never been given credit for sticking with me. In our first year in the second division we finished 18th and that could have turned certain directors. Taylor was a manager of his time, admitting he would struggle with the way many Premier League clubs are set up at management level. Its interesting because its not something Im happy with - Im not talking here at Watford, its changed in a lot of places, he explains. The owners of clubs are very wealthy people and they want a lot more of a say in the running of a club, and the running of the team, the selection of the team and who is transferred in. I have to say I wouldnt have been happy with that. It was beginning to come in as I left management. Im not particularly keen on being called the manager of a football team when really Im just head coach. Watford have been one of the surprise packages of the Premier League season so far At Watford and elsewhere in Europe, the Pozzo family have worked wonders with their unique approach to club ownership. You cant argue with that, Taylor continues. As much as what Ive just said, theyve done extremely well in how theyve worked it out. And more and more they seem to have put Watford at the top of all the clubs they have an interest in. Its a top division theyre playing in now and theyre handling themselves very well.It may have continental ownership, but this is a place with deep community roots. We concluded our chat to allow Taylor to head into one of the clubs suites to speak to local children at Show Racism The Red Cards 20th anniversary event. Taylor is rightfully proud of the clubs strong community programme, one that dates back to his first spell here. Deeney merits England call Quique Sanchez Flores says Troy Deeney deserves England chance I made it very clear that the club belonged to the town. What I started at Lincoln was the players going out to where our supporters worked. The supporters loved it but I used to make the point to the Watford supporters; you come and watch us and have to pay to watch, we dont have to pay a thing to watch you work. The relationship that established in this town was fantastic. You could see John Barnes play and then a few days later hed come to your work place and youd talk to him about the game. The players enjoyed it as well. For me I still think it was one of the most important things I gave the lead to, the community aspect, because it became known as a community club. We had a few chances and if we had put one of those away we would have put a lot of pressure on them. Im proud of our effort. I thought there were times where we could have gave in, but we never did. We kept battling. I wish we would have gotten the result here, but again, theres a lot more soccer in front of us and I think we learned a lot on the evening.Georgia returns to Athens for a weekend of home matches, facing Samford on Friday at 7 p.m. and Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 1 p.m. ' ' '

Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.Miami overcame an 11-point deficit with 16 minutes left to end a four-game winning streak by the Bills (4-3) and beat them for only the second time in their past seven meetings. With Ajayi sidelined by cramps, Damien Williams carried half the Bills weary defense into the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run that put the Dolphins ahead with 3:56 to go. On their next possession, Ryan Tannehill hit Kenny Stills for a 66-yard score that made it 28-17.Miami recovered an onside kick with 13 seconds left to seal the victory.Tyrod Taylor threw long to Marquise Goodwin for a 67-yard touchdown that put the Bills up 17-6 midway through the third quarter. The Dolphins responded with a 75-yard drive for their first touchdown.EMERGING STAR: Ajayi, a second-year pro from Boise State, is the only NFL rusher with a 200-yard game this year. BUDAPEST, Hungary - Formula One leader Sebastian Vettel showed he is the driver to beat in qualifying after posting the fastest times in both practice runs Friday for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The three-time defending F1 champion twice finished comfortably ahead of teammate Mark Webber as Red Bull recorded an impressive 1-2. Vettel left it quite late before doing a timed lap in the morning, but was quickly into his stride to set a time of 1 minute, 22.723. In searing afternoon temperatures, he was comfortably faster than that, clocking 1:21.264. "Theres some room for improvement," Vettel said. "My long run wasnt completely clean." Lotus will also be confident for Saturdays qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen was third best in the morning and Romain Grosjean matched him in the afternoon. Vettel has never won in Hungary. He is looking to extend his overall lead over Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, who was fourth in both sessions. "I am not thinking about the championship and the title too much," Vettel said. "If you look back to last year, or 2010, it was going down to the wire. So never feel too comfortable where you are." On this form, however, the German will be strongly expected to secure his fourth pole position. He has won four races so far this season, including two of the past three. Webber finished .44 behind him, Grosjean was .153 back, and Alonso trailed by .162. It is the first practice day since F1 tire manufacturer Pirelli buckled under intense pressure to modify its tires. Pirelli provided medium and soft tires for the Hungaroring and drivers looked comfortable all day. "The car felt good and the team did a great job," Webber said. "Its a demanding circuit and the conditions are set to stay the same, so I dont think well be changing a huge amount tonight." Raikkonen switched to soft for another timed run late in the day but he had to abort after being held up by Jenson Button. The track temperature rose to 47 degrees Celsius (117 Fahrenheit) on a hot afternoon on the 4.381-kilometre (2.7-mile) circuit — the third shortest in F1 after Monaco and Canada. With 14 corners and short straights, it is the second most difficult track to overtake on after Monaco, and it will be hard to stop Vettel from winning again if he starts from pole. Three weeks ago, he extended his lead over Alonso with a victory at his home GP and he leads the Spaniard by 34 points in the last race before the midseason break. "Fernando and Kimi are consistent and quick, and never underestimate Mercedes," Vettel said. "Theyve made a huge leap forward from the first couple of races. Tires are changing again, so this could mix up the whole matter, too." Ten years ago, Alonso became F1s youngest winner at 22 years, 26 days with his victory in Hungary. His record was beaten by Vettel five years later. Raikkonen still has an outside shot of winning his second F1 title, sitting 41 points behind Vettel in third. The 26-year-old Vettel is favoured by some to surpass Michael Schumachers record of seven F1 titles. "Thoughts like that are never on my mind," Vettel said. "I am not waking up in the morning thinking to myself, Wow, 2011 was a fantastic year, 2012 was awesome, and so on. I wake up and Im in the here and now." Last week, teams held in-season testing sessions at Silverstone to assess new tires provided by Pirelli after several spectacular blowouts on the same circuit at the British Grand Prix in June prompted a furious response and even a boycott threat from drivers. Pirelli decided that from this race until the end of the season, it will revert to last years tires combined with the current compounds from this season.Authentic Josh Sweat Jersey . Driver opened the scoring in the 11th minute, sending a free kick from 25 yards out right of the middle inside the far post. "It was a big game for the club," Driver said. "Obviously, with a team like Stoke, it is nice to score in a game like that. Its nice to get a win and a goal, but I would rather get that on the weekend (against Chicago in MLS play)." Barnes scored in the 88th minute, taking a pass from Corey Ashe in the left box and sending a shot along the end line from outside the left goalkeepers box and inside the near post. "We created some really good chances in the first half," Houston head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "I thought we defended well. Then it was a bit of a possession game for them, and we were kind of dropping deeper and deeper and had some good possession as well. Giles had a good individual play for the second goal." Stoke City was playing its first game under new manager Mark Hughes. Stoke City will play FC Dallas on Saturday night, and end its three-game tour against the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday night. "From our point of view, this is exactly what we need at this stage of the season and our preparation," Hughes said. "t;I thought for long periods we showed decent control of the football without really having a cutting edge.dddddddddddd"We didnt create enough in the final third. We didnt really retain the ball as well as we hope to do in the future, but for a first game, first test, I thought this was exactly what we needed." Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron, who spent 4 1/2 years in Houston before he moved on to the EPL with Stoke City, said the first game under Hughes was a good opportunity to get back on the field. "Its obviously a preseason game, so we are just rolling with it," said Cameron, a U.S. national team member. "Its a new system, so we are just trying to get the ball down and play. Obviously, everyone was a bit fatigued playing in the heat, but I thought it was a good show." Cam Weaver had a line drive from the right box in the 23rd minute stopped with a leg save by Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. Jason Johnson let one go from inside the upper box in the 33rd minute, but Begovic made a diving save to keep it 1-0. Kenwyne Jones had Stoke Citys best opportunity in the 64th minute, but Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric made a diving save on Jones shot from outside the upper box. Barnes nearly upped the lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute, but his right-footed one-timer from 10 yards out on the right box just missed the far post. ' ' '

Theres no mention of that at all and I hope there isnt, he said.He he wants his young side to use the match against the high-flying Cats as a slingshot to 2017.Surprisingly, Roos nominates the round 23 win last year against Greater Western Sydney as the most critical of his tenure with the Demons. As silly as it sounds, to go from six wins to seven and the vibe after that game, I think it drove the pre-season a fair bit, he said.It led to a fantastic pre-season and some real excitement.Up until then there was a fair bit of inconsistency .dddddddddddd.. we talk about consistency, our percentage (in 2016) is 103 per cent.Considering Roos inherited a side that had won just two AFL matches, with a percentage of 54 for the season, its easy to see why the 53-year-old coach has already declared this season a success.Looking back, Roos joked of chief executive Peter Jacksons initial description of the club.He didnt paint it like it was a Mona Lisa. It was a bit of a crayon thing from kindergarten when I got here.He is adamant he wont return to coaching, dedicating next year to travel and family time. There will be no shortage of job offers further up the AFLs pecking order Roos, who took Sydney to the 2005 premiership before starting the renovation job at Melbourne. Both sides have made three changes for Saturdays match.Roos has brought in Jeff Garlett, Christian Salem and James Harmes, dropping Clayton Oliver, Alex Neal-Bullen and Viv Michie.Chris Scott has returned Jimmy Bartel, Josh Caddy and Daniel Menzel to his side, axing Shane Kersten and Darcy Lang while losing Lachie Henderson, who has undergone minor knee surgery. The Cats will lock up a top-four finish with a win. CANTON, Ohio -- With his late father foremost on his mind and his wife, Deanna, as his presenter, Brett Favre cemented his place in football history on Saturday night.Wearing Hall of Fame gold jacket No. 298, Favre became the 25th quarterback immortalized in footballs ultimate shrine with a Lambeau Field-like crowd chanting Go, Pack, go! before he took the stage. His bronze bust will be forever placed next to Ron Wolf, the former?Packers?general manager who swung the trade to bring Favre to Green Bay from Atlanta in 1992.In an off-the-cuff speech, just as hed predicted, Favre spoke just over 36 minutes and devoted nearly nine minutes to honor his father, Irv, who died in 2003 on the eve of one of his greatest performances: a 399-yard, four-touchdown game against the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football.Favre said that on the plane ride to Mississippi for his fathers funeral after the Oakland game, Deanna told him: Your dad had said to me that he had hoped or could not wait for the day youre inducted into the Hall of Fame so he could introduce you.Up until that moment, I had never thought about the Hall of Fame, Favre said Saturday. So a new goal entered my mind. I said to myself, I will make it to the Hall of Fame so I could acknowledge the fact of how important he was.And then the emotions hit. After a long pause and fighting back tears, Favre said, This is tougher than any third-and-15.Irv coached his son in high school, and Favre said he once heard his dad tell his assistant coaches after one game that his son might not have played well but that he would redeem himself.I want you to know, Dad, I spent the rest of my career trying to redeem myself and make him proud, Favre said. I hope I succeeded.Irv would have presented his son had he not died at age 58. Instead, Deanna performed the honor. She was there long before my first touchdown pass and long after the last, Favre said of his wife. So it was an easy choice.A first-ballot selection, Favre, 46, retired -- finally -- in 2010 after 20 seasons. Sixteen of those came in Green Bay, where he helped resurrect a franchise that was without a title since the Lombardi era until Favre & Co. won Super Bowl XXXI. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame last summer and his retired No. 4 was unveiled on the Lambeau Field fa?ade on Thanksgiving night last year, with one of his idols, Bart Starr, in the house. That event served as the final mend between the Packers, their fans and Favre, who originally retired in 2008 only to change his mind later that summer. GM Ted Thompson then traded Favre to the New York Jets. He retired again after one season only to come back and play two more seasons for the Minnesota Vikings.Atlanta to Minnesota, 20 years, Favre said in summing up his career. But make no mistake about, I will be remembered as a Packer.Thompson was in the crowd Saturday and led a contingent of Packers that included quarterback Aaron Rodgers and kicker Mason Crosby, who are the only two current Packers who played with Favre, and coach Mike McCarthy. It just sends tingles up your spine, Thompson told ESPN.com as the ceremony began. Its almost like a home game for the Packers. Just listen to this [chant of Go, Pack, go]. This means so much to all these people, to us, to Brett and his family. For me, its just a remarkable sense of pride. I was lucky enough to be hired by Ron Wolf in 1992, and so I got to see it when it all began. And that started with Brett. And it started with Mike Holmgren. And it started with Ron Wolf. But Bretts ability to do what he did was just remarkable. I cant say enough about what Brett meant to the Green Bay Packers. The NFLs iron-man quarterback started a record 297 consecutive regular-season games. It began when he replaced Don Majkowski in the Packers starting lineup on Sept. 27, 1992, and ended on Dec. 13, 2010, when the Vikings turned in their pregame inactive list with No. 4 on it.Along the way, the free-wheeling Favre threw for an NFL-record 71,838 yards and 508 touchdowns, marks that were later eclipsed by Peyton Manning. He still holds the record for most career interceptions (336). Favre won all three of his Most Valuable Player awards in succession (1995-97) with the Packers.Favre was the final speaker during Saturdays induction. Other players enshrined included Marvin Harrison, Orlando Pace, Dick Stanfel, Kevin Greene, Ken Stabler, Edward DeBartolo Jr. and Tony Dungy.Favre spoke the longest. Twenty-nine minutes in, he said: They told me Ive got eight to 10 minutes, and Ive got every one of these guys clocking me right now. Im going for a world record. I dont give a damn.Favre opened by saying he was going to ask Thompson and McCarthy if he could play the first series of Sunday nights Hall of Fame game against the Colts. All this excitement has me wanting to call [ESPNs] Ed Werder and spread the word again, Favre said.He closed with some advice.Work as hard as you possibly can, lay it all on the line, and whatever happens, happens, Favre said. But you wont look back and regret.I dont regret anything. Thats not to say it was perfect. I dont regret anything, and thats what Im most proud of.Wholesale Sneakers Australia .In my heart and mind Im competing for India, luge competitor Shiva Keshavan told The Associated Press in an email interview. FRISCO, Texas -- Ezekiel Elliott should not expect a smaller workload in the final few weeks of the regular season. The more we give Ezekiel the ball, then I think the better,?Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday. Were winning with that. Were wearing them down on defense.Elliott has 243 carries for 1,199 yards with 11 touchdowns and is on pace for 354 carries and 1,744 yards. That would be the most carries by a rookie in team history and the sixth most overall. In 2014, DeMarco Murray had 392 carries. Emmitt Smith, the NFLs all-time leading rusher, had seasons with 377 (1995), 373 (1992), 368 (1994) and 365 carries (1991).I look back at Emmitt Smith. Everybody expressed, including ourselves, concern because Emmitt was carrying such a load, Jones said. And of course I think he carried the ball more than I think anyone has in their career in the NFL. But Emmitt was solid. He was certainly productive.Elliott has had at least 20 carries in nine of the Cowboys 11 games but only two with more than 25 carries. He has five 100-yard games this season. In his final two seasons at Ohio State, Elliott had 273 carries for 1,878 yards in 15 games in 2014 and 289 carries for 1,821 yards in 13 games in 2015.I dont believe in the rookie wall, Elliott said last week before playing the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving. I think its more of a mental thing. I think if youre a mentally strong individual, then you know the rookie wall doesnt even sound right. If you take care of your body and youre strong mentally, then you should be fine.Wholesale Hornets Jerseys . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football.
