It was as if neither actually had their heart and soul into becoming number one. The level of hunger, in particular by the Brumbies, has to be questioned.The Waratahs showed considerable pluck, but in the big moments were too frazzled, too loose and too disjointed to make a proper impact. They made certain that the play was directed away from their biggest threat- Israel Folau- and so his impact was minimal. That opening match against Alabama is a sore spot for us, and it is our chance to take another step towards our goal, and it is our chance to get a little bit of revenge, not that revenge is that huge because we know we just have to perform. It will be tough; there is no question. We match up with them really well, but it is always a battle. I think the team sees the goal is a little closer, and I think that the motivation is coming back around from them to being we made it through the rough stretch of the season and we are on the home stretch. They feel lighter. They feel like there is a really strong purpose; it is not as distant. We survived October for the most part, so now to be home, this early November is going to be really fun and really good for us.On starting a four-match homestand in front of the 12th Man It will be nice to have our home crowd know that we will be back in a few nights. Then, with a rookie goalie who had spent most of the season in the American Hockey League, they never looked back, beating the San Jose Sharks in six games to win their first Stanley Cup since 2009. As for Crosby? All he did was finish third in NHL scoring with 85 points and then dominate the playoffs at both ends of the ice en route to a Conn Smythe Trophy win as playoff MVP. He enters this season fresh from an MVP turn at the World Cup of Hockey, where Canada went undefeated and Crosby led all players in points.So, whats the problem? History. And history tells us that it really doesnt matter how good you are after winning it all, the rest of the field always catches the defending champion. No NHL team has won back-to-back championships since the Detroit Red Wings did so in 1997 and 1998. And history tells us its virtually impossible, even if youre as good as the Penguins.
