NEW ORLEANS -- The Detroit Lions will be without their starting middle linebacker, Tahir Whitehead, on Sunday against New Orleans.Whitehead, who had been dealing with a knee injury, was downgraded to out on Saturday and did not make the trip to New Orleans.Whitehead leads the Lions with 101 tackles and had been the only Detroit linebacker in the regular rotation not to miss a game this season.He practiced on a limited basis all week but was not spotted doing much during portions open to the media.With Whitehead out, the Lions might be down their top two linebackers as DeAndre Levy (knee) is also questionable to play.Josh Bynes will likely assume Whiteheads spot in the middle alongside either Antwione Williams or Thurston Armbrister.Detroit also activated DE Armonty Bryant from the suspended list and signed WR TJ Jones from the practice squad.To make room for them, the Lions cut CB Johnthan Banks and RB Justin Forsett.
