ARCADIA, Calif. -- This Breeders Cup Dirt Mile is about reinvention.Dortmund is trying to reinvent himself as a miler after going down the Triple Crown trail last year at age 3 and this year finding the Breeders Cup Classic road too rugged, with potholes like California Chrome out there.Runhappy is attempting a second act as a two-turn horse after winning the Breeders Cup Sprint last year and being named the years champion male sprinter.Gun Runner is trying to graduate from the nations best races restricted to 3-year-olds to facing accomplished older horses.Toms Ready is trying to show he can be as effective going two turns as he is around one.And Vyjack is trying to parlay a move to California into the richest payday of his career. Those five are part of a nine-horse field entered in the second of the Breeders Cup races that will be run Friday at Santa Anita. The Dirt Mile, with a purse of $1 million, is the seventh race on the 10-race card.Dortmund will be favored, despite not having won a race in 11 months. He is 0-for-3 this year, but theres a darn good reason for that -- he ran against California Chrome every time. After Dortmund finished second in the San Diego, third in the Pacific Classic, and second last time out in the Awesome Again, it was clear to trainer Bob Baffert that he needed a different assignment -- at a shorter distance, in a race without California Chrome. The Dirt Mile -- at a track where Dortmund won the 2015 Santa Anita Derby and has lost only once in six starts -- was the right spot.Martin Garcia is reunited with Dortmund for this race, and they have a terrific record in concert -- seven wins out of nine starts, and 5-for-5 at Santa Anita.Runhappy got a late start to the year, finally returning five weeks ago following a nine-month layoff. He faded to fourth in the one-mile Ack Ack on Oct. 1 at Churchill Downs. Were playing catch-up, theres no question, said Laura Wohlers, who trains Runhappy. Ideally, we wanted to start him out in a sprint and then move to a mile, but it didnt work out.Its a challenge, coming off a layoff. He needed his last race. Hes had one run. He didnt win, but hes training well. If he gets a good trip, I think hell give a good account of himself.Runhappy did turn in a sharp final workout here, indicating hes at least retained his keen early speed. Dortmund also has been prominent early, so there figures to be a lively pace.If so, that will help Gun Runner, the remarkably consistent 3-year-old who figures to get an ideal trip and touted himself with a fine work Sunday morning.Hes matured a lot, said Scott Blasi, the top assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. Physically, hes filled out. Hes gotten deeper. Hes gotten faster as the years gone on.Gun Runner was third in the Kentucky Derby, and his subsequent starts have included such prestigious races as the Haskell and Travers.Hes just solid, Blasi said. Hes danced every dance. Hes a quality horse. Were lucky to have him.Toms Ready, like Gun Runner, spent Derby prep season in Louisiana. After finishing 12th in the Kentucky Derby, he has raced three times, all around one turn. He won twice, including when defeating Runhappy in the Ack Ack. Hes yet to win around two turns.Vyjack, a graduate of the Derby class of 2013, was sent west this summer after making his first 25 starts in the Eastern time zone. He won the City of Hope, a one-mile grass race, here in his last start and was a solid second behind sprint star Masochistic in the Pat OBrien at seven furlongs on dirt at Del Mar. His effectiveness on any surface makes him dangerous.Accelerate, Point Piper, Tamarkuz and Texas Chrome round out the field.Accelerate is taking a major leap in class after winning lesser stakes restricted to 3-year-olds in his past two starts.Point Piper will appreciate a return to a two-turn mile -- the conditions of the Longacres Mile at Emerald, which he won in August -- after having finished fourth in the Kelso, a one-turn mile at Belmont. We think hell like two turns better than one, said his trainer and co-owner, Jerry Hollendorfer. He needs pace to run at. He should get it in this race.Tamarkuz was second in the Kelso. He has had a steady diet of one-turn races in New York since arriving last year from Dubai, so hes a question mark going two turns.Texas Chrome is riding a three-race win streak, all in stakes restricted to 3-year-olds in Louisiana and Oklahoma. "It was nerve-wracking, but we pulled through," said Collaros, who threw four touchdown passes to lead the Toronto Argonauts (8-4) to a 33-27 win over the Calgary Stampeders (9-3) in front of 28,781 fans at McMahon Stadium. LOUIS -- St. http://www.cheaprunningshoesireland.com/ .J. -- Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. Running Shoes Clearance Sale . Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (4) on the indoor hard-court at Belgrade Arena. The victory improved the Czech pairs impressive cup doubles record to 14-1. Running Shoes Sale Ireland . -- New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis is retiring after a 16-year career to become the goalie coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Ten of the top 11 teams in the College Football Playoff rankings won this week -- the exception being No. 5 Louisville -- so there shouldnt be too much of a shake-up among the top six.Michigan might drop one spot because of a lackluster passing game under John OKorn, and Oklahoma still has some work to do in spite of a big win at West Virginia. What we do know: The Mountaineers are out. Louisville is out. Utah is out.Whos in?Heres a breakdown of where each conference stands in the playoff race after 12 weeks:BIG TENNo. 2 Ohio State The Buckeyes have one of the most impressive résumés in the country, with road wins at No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 7 Wisconsin and a home win against No. 18 Nebraska. If they can punctuate the season with a home win against No. 3 Michigan, the Buckeyes would certainly enter the debate as one of the top four teams in the country. It would make it much easier on the committee if Penn State lost to Michigan State, allowing the Buckeyes to win the East. If Penn State wins the Big Ten title, for Ohio State to get in, the committee would have to put two Big Ten teams in the top four. That means it would need to consider Ohio State unequivocally better than the Pac-12 and Big 12 champs (assuming Alabama and Clemson are in). It would be extremely difficult for Ohio State to go instead of Penn State because it would lose the head-to-head and conference tiebreakers, so if the Buckeyes do get in, it would most likely have to be at the expense of the Big 12 and Pac-12. If Wisconsin wins the Big Ten, its a better argument in favor of Ohio State because the Buckeyes would have a head-to-head win over the Big Ten champs.No. 3 Michigan The Wolverines are one win away from clinching the East Division, but can they do it with backup quarterback John OKorn? Michigans offense was limited in Saturdays 20-10 win over Indiana as OKorn completed just 7 of 16 pass attempts for 59 yards. That likely wont suffice in Columbus next week. This was the first chance for the committee to see Michigan without injured starting quarterback Wilton Speight, and while it won, it could drop behind Clemson on Tuesday.No. 7 Wisconsin If the Badgers beat Minnesota, they will clinch the West Division and have a shot to beat what should be a top-10 opponent in the Big Ten title game. It could be a chance for Wisconsin to avenge a regular-season loss, as the Badgers lost to both Ohio State and Michigan.No. 8 Penn State The Nittany Lions would clinch the East Division with a home win against Michigan State AND a Michigan loss. They should stay ranked ahead of Oklahoma because they have a better win (against No. 2 Ohio State), but still behind Wisconsin because the Badgers two losses have been against two of the committees top four teams.SECNo. 1 Alabama The Tide started slowly against FCS foe Chattanooga but wound up right where they were expected to be: still undefeated. Even if Alabama loses to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, the Tide will still play in thee SEC title game and likely finish in the top four with a win.dddddddddddd Theres also an improbable scenario still floating that the SEC could get two teams in, but only if Alabama was to lose a close title game to Florida, which would also have beaten LSU and FSU.No. 23 Florida The Gators clinched the East with their win over LSU and will play Alabama in the SEC championship game. If by some miracle Florida upsets Alabama in the title game, it would be difficult for the committee to leave the Gators out of the top four, but thats assuming they also beat rival Florida State in Tallahassee next weekend. If they do, that would give them three straight wins over ranked opponents to end the season (LSU, FSU and Alabama).ACCNo. 4 Clemson The Tigers clinched the Atlantic Division with their win at Wake Forest and now carry the banner for the entire league after Louisvilles loss to Houston. The Cardinals have officially been eliminated both from the ACC race and the playoff conversation. Clemson has to beat rival South Carolina and likely an unranked opponent in the ACC title game, and if it does, it should be a lock to finish in the top four.PAC-12No. 6 Washington The Huskies rebounded from their loss to USC with a win against Arizona State, but their résumé took a hit when both Utah and Washington State lost. While Utah should still be ranked, that remains Washingtons lone win against a CFP Top 25 team. With a nonconference strength of schedule that ranks dead last in the FBS, Washington needs all the ranked opponents it can find, and Wazzu might drop out of the Top 25 after suffering its third loss of the season (including an FCS loss). Washington will win the North if it beats Washington State in the Apple Cup and could get another win against a ranked opponent if it beats Colorado to win the Pac-12 title.No. 10 Colorado The Buffs can clinch the Pac-12 South with a win over Utah on Saturday. They have two respectable losses (Michigan and USC) but need more marquee wins. Beating Washington State was a step in the right direction, but they also have to beat Utah and possibly Washington in the Pac-12 championship. Remember: Last year, Stanford was a two-loss team that won the Pac-12 title and finished No. 6 in the committees final rankings.BIG 12No. 9 Oklahoma The Sooners kept their playoff hopes alive and eliminated West Virginia in the process with their impressive win in Morgantown. They still need lots of help, though, because of a weak strength of schedule. Five of OUs nine wins have come against teams with at least six losses, and they have just three wins against teams with winning records. Overall, OU has wins against teams with a combined record of 43-52. It will all be a moot point if OU doesnt beat Oklahoma State, so it needs to win Bedlam and hope Washington, Michigan and Penn State all lose. ' ' '
